Profiles Of Our Esteemed Speakers
Professor Phyllis Chew
Dr Phyllis Chew is a tenured professor at the Department of English Language and Literature, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. Her areas of specialization are sociolinguistics, literacy and English language methodology.
She is the project advisor for Instep, the textbook and audio-visual multimodal series used in Singapore schools from 2001-2011; as well as among other things, past president of the English Language and Literature Association of Singapore, the Association of Women for Action and Research, the University Women’s Association and past Director of the United Nations’ Association of Singapore. Dr
Chew is also the author of Emergent Lingua Francas (New York: Routledge 2009) and The Chinese Religion and the Bahai Faith (Oxford: George Ronald 1992).
Parents would gain valuable insights on how their children and students can do exceptionally well in their academics, critical for their child's progression in Primary school.
Co-Founder of PAL Learning
Mr Pok Vic Tor was formerly the co-founder of the Litespeed group of education companies prior to founding Viva Kids Pte Ltd.
The companies were involved in the provision of education services and technology solutions.
These included e-learning assessments as well as profiling and management solutions sold to regional public education sector markets in the 2000s before going public in 2005.
He is a Physical Education and English teacher by training and co-authored a MOE-approved Primary School English Textbook, In-step.
With his vast knowledge and experience working with children that he educates and truly cares about, Vic Tor understands the worries of what most parents would face. He believes that no child should be deprived of access to proper education and that no child should ever get left behind.
